“We are excited to announce Awal Ahmed as our head boys’ soccer coach at St. Mary of the Assumption High School. Coach Ahmed is a high-energy leader with a tremendous amount of experience as both coach and player. He has a tremendous soccer pedigree and a strong track record of developing and mentoring high-quality student-athletes”, said Director of Athletics Michele Sharp. Ahmed has played professionally in both Ghana, South Africa and the United States.

“It is an honor to be part of the St. Mary’s community and family. I hope to help our young people to strengthen their dedication, hard work, and persistence in the game of soccer. I am committed to not only challenge physical and technical skills, but to expand on our development of critical thinking within the sport. With respect, discipline, and togetherness, our team will be a force to be reckoned with”, stated Coach Awal Ahmed.

Ahmed began his career in 2011 as the coach at St. Peters Prep winning the Hudson County title in his first year. He also coached with the New York Red Bulls. Since then, Coach Ahmed has worked to develop soccer players throughout the state in all age groups. He obtained his A- license in 2015. He played professionally for Liberty Professionals in Ghana, South Africa as well as Match Fit Academy.

“His work ethic, passion for the game and clear vision of how to build a program capable of competing at the highest levels are impressive. I look forward to our student-athletes working with Coach Ahmed and watching
this program flourish under his direction”, stated Sharp.
